The government seems to worry about what SYRIZA has announced

The main opposition party believes the announcements of Mr. Tsipras triggered the political developments

Newsroom September 16 10:59

The main opposition party (SYRIZA) estimates that the government shows the first signs of anxiety and worries about the measures announced by SYRIZA.

The party leadership attempts to assess the political impact of what SYRIZA’s leader Alexis Tsipras announced, as well as the reactions of the coalition government.

Vice-President and leader of one of the coalition parties Evangelos Venizelos suggested one day after SYRIZA’s announcements to change the electoral law so as to abolish the bonus of 50 seats that the first party takes. This move is considered a sign that the government accepts now their defeat in the upcoming national elections, according to SYRIZA.

SYRIZA rejects any discussion on this topic arguing that the change of the electoral law should be examined in the context of a scheduled discussion, which will include the constitutional provision for proportional representation.

The main opposition party believes the announcements of Mr. Tsipras at Thessaloniki International Fair triggered the political developments and might speed up the announcement of national elections.

Top executives of SYRIZA note that it’s not worth criticizing the government’s argument on the “benefits provided by Mr. Tsipras” and that the government exposes itself.

Also, SYRIZA believes that the announcements made by Mr. Tsipras were part of a more realistic model of governance. “He presented not what he wanted, but what he can implement”, SYRIZA says.
