Actress gets arrested for running naked in the ancient theater of Epidaurus

Nicole Mersey was casted as Circe, the famous Goddess of magic from the Greek mythology

Newsroom September 19 05:06

German director Matthias Langhoff and his whole crew, including a young Chilean actress, were arrested on September 18 for shooting inappropriate scenes in the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, located in Peloponnese, southern Greece.

The famous German director is currently filming a documentary on his life and career, which will be screened in the context of his next theater production.

Nicole Mersey, who was casted as Circe, the famous Goddess of magic from the Greek mythology, arrived in Greece with a large crew and went to Epidaurus to film her scenes.

According to information, the crew had gotten permission to film at the ancient theater until late at night. However, at some point during the filming, a guard spotted the 32-year-old Chilean actress running around naked in the ancient theater and called the police.

The director, along with his whole crew were arrested and brought to Nafplion police station.

Greece is no stranger to the famous German director’s provocative work. Back in 1997, Matthias Langhoff had staged Euripides’ Bacchae in Epidaurus and was again accused of “insulting” the theater by having the Greek actor Minas Hatzisavvas appear naked as Dionysus, surrounded by dead animals.
