Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will visit today the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, in order to participate in the events organized by the Azeri government for the Shah Deniz gas field.
Samaras will meet the president of the country Ilham Aliyev as well as leaders of other countries.
On Saturday an event will take place for the 20th anniversary of the signing of the agreement with large private companies and the start of the gas field development as well as an event for the Southern Gas Corridor.
The prime ministers of Turkey, Bulgaria, Albania, Georgia, Montenegro, Britain, Croatia and Italy will attend the events.
Greece is linked to the Shah Deniz field through the TAP pipeline which will carry Azeri gas to Europe via Greece, Albania and Italy.
Ten days ago the environmental impact was approved in order to continue the works on the pipeline. The government reassured that the agreement regarding the sale of the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (DESFA) to the Azeri state company is in progress.
