31 year old Padmini Prakash, was a former activist for the rights of the sexual minorities in Indian, since in the past these people for others had the stigma and were excluded from all professions, which driven them to prostitution.
When last April the Supreme Court recognized transsexuals as the “third sex”, the 31 year old was hired at a local tv station Lotus News in Tamil Nadu as the new TV news presenter.
In her interview to the Financial Times, she revealed that although her family has disown her and despite that at the beginning she was very wary of her new job, the viewers embraced her and supported her, while the news at 7 became very popular.
It is worth mentioning that already neighboring countries like Nepal Bangladesh and Pakistan, have recognized transsexuals as the “third sex”.
