German Government sees signs of hope for Greece

He underlined that decisions on Greece will be taken after the end of the current adjustment program

Newsroom September 22 05:50

German government spokesman Steffen Seibert noted in his official statement on Monday that the German government sees “signs of hope” for Greece, especially in terms of growth.

According to Mr. Seibert, these signs will be the main focus of the meeting between Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and German Chancellor Angela Merkel to be held on Tuesday in Berlin.

The German Government reiterated that tomorrow’s meeting will not lead to any decisions and underlined that decisions on Greece will be taken after the end of the current adjustment program.

“Obviously, I cannot speak about the Greek expectations,” Seibert said when asked about what the Greek side might expect. However, he noted that “the Chancellor is pleased over the visit and always appreciates an exchange of views with Prime Minister Samaras.”

“Of course they will discuss the specific situation in Greece,” he said, adding that “now there are signs of hope, especially in terms of economic growth, which seems to be on the rebound.”
