55-year-old Greek businessman Manolis Karamolegos, who was kidnapped on January 2014, managed to be released in less than 24 hours, after persuading one of his kidnappers to let him go and surrender to the police.
According to media reports, the clever businessman was able to persuade one of the men guarding him that police had traced their whereabouts via their mobile phones and that his best course of action would be to give himself up. Finally, the perpetrator agreed to accompany Karamolegos to the Keratea police station, in eastern Attica.
“Let me go and I promise that I will hire your wife and take care of your child,” Mr. Manolis Karamolegos told his kidnapper, a 37-year-old Moldovan man. And today, eight months after his release, the Greek businessman has not forgotten his promise.
In fact, he is doing whatever he can to keep his word, by helping the wife of the 37-year old get the green card so that she can work in his business and also by financially supporting her and her child. It may seem strange, but he has taken under his wing his kidnapper’s wife and child.
Those who know Manolis Karamolegos, owner of the Karamolegos bakery industry, are not surprised, since they knew from the very start that the promises made by the Greek businessman were not just empty words – these promises were driven by a genuine desire to help a fellow human being.
