Greek-Troika teleconference ahead of talks

The Greek government hopes that next week's talks with the troika will be "the last tango" in Athens, but the "tango" has just begun

Newsroom September 24 07:48

The troika – made up of delegates from the European Central Bank (ECB), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and European Commissioner (EC) – are to focus on the state budget to be drafted on October 6. The Greek press have dubbed this meeting as “the last tango” in Athens as there is a general belief that Greece is ready to exit the bailout program.

The troika has asked Greece to created a reserve fund to act as a safety measure for when Greece exits the troika. On its part, the Greek side wants to apply tax exemptions and allow overdue debts to be paid in 100 installments.

Greece’s interest in exiting the bailout was confirmed during a meeting between Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday.
