US media comments on Greek PM Samaras statements

News media report that Prime Minister said "Greece can now stand on its own two feet" and "we believe we do not require a new support package"

The American press mentions the statements made by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras after the meeting he had with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Wall Street Journal reports that Mr. Samaras sought the support of Germany on Greek government’s efforts and plans to boost growth and create new jobs .

Also, the newspaper refers to Greek Prime Mininster’s statements on the “progress made by Greece to restructure its economy” while the reporter mentions that Ms. Merkel supported the above statement by saying “Greece shows very positive signs and we are certain that Greece’s economy will soon recover,”.

Bloomberg news agency reported Samaras’ statement according to which Prime Minister believes that “Greece achieved its targets earlier than expected,” while the article mentions that ” Prime Minister Antonis Samaras may try to end financial aid from the International Monetary Fund earlier than expected”.

Also, it is noted that Ms. Merkel praised the leadership of Mr. Samaras and said that the future of the financial aid program will be discussed in the coming weeks.

Many US media, though, mention the Associated Press report according to which ” Greece’s prime minister says his country isn’t seeking another international financial rescue and has indicated that a new economic reform plan is coming soon” stating that Greece will soon propose “its own framework to continue reforms in the years to come, beyond the timetable of the [bailout] agreements.”
