Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos on Saturday, during a meeting with the foreign minister of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) Nikola Poposki, underlined that Greece’s position has not changed and that the Greek Government now expected Skopje to take steps toward a solution regarding the name dispute between the two countries.
According to sources, in the meeting that took place on the sidelines of the 69th UN General Assembly, Mr. Venizelos mentioned specific statements and actions on FYROM’s part, which did not help cultivate a climate of trust between the two countries.
Moreover, Mr. Venizelos told Poposki that, in relation to the name issue, Skopje should not expect support from European capitals since the international community knows that the authorities in Skopje must now make decisions to move forward in good faith at the necessary steps so that the differences might be resolved.
