Further, according to the same government source that meeting of the Greek Prime Minister and the Commission President was a “designated labor conversation”. Further, it was explained that, since Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker is the new President of Commission the meeting had to take place so “he must be informed of the current situation in Greece and where we stand on a number of things”.
Always according to the same source, “Our mission was to picture in depth the Greek positions on all matters -and debt to Mr. Juncker.” The President of the Commission appeared very positive, while he stressed that ” he is not a competent body for assessing, but he is a key player. ”
Mr. Juncker explained that he wants to have a clear view and good knowledge, since, once he assumes office as President of the European Commission on the 1st of November, the Greek issue will be top priority to address in his agenda.
After the meeting followed working lunch, in which other than Mr. Samaras and Mr. Juncker attended the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Evangelos Venizelos, the Minister of Finance Mr. Gikas Hardouvelis and the advisor to Prime Minister Mr. Stavros Papastavrou.
