Newsroom October 6 08:44

Counterterrorism police officers continued their investigations into the activities of 31-year-old Antonis Stamboulos, arrested on Thursday in the suburb of Vyronas, southeast Athens, as part of a foiled terrorist attack. The man is being charged for participation in the terrorist group Revolutionary Struggle, possession of explosives and a firearm, forgery, resisting arrest and providing false data.

The police searched the young man’s home in the northern suburb of Maroussi and also raided apartments in Kypseli and Thisseio in search of arms caches. Weapons weren’t found in the apartment located in Kalifrona Street in Kypseli, however the police did find an old-styled black cell phone and two helmets. The police are now trying to find more clues from tracking the cell phone and are searching for traces of DNA from the helmets.

Sources state that a woman, possibly Paula Roupa, and a young child were seen entering and leaving the apartment.

Mr. Stamboulos has not been very cooperative with the police, however he has revealed that he is a student of fine arts and he has never before been in trouble with the law.

Lawyer Ioanna Kurtovik has criticized the police and press handling of the arrest, stating that the so-called evidence against her client that has been presented in the media bears no relation to what has been submitted to the magistrate. She spoke of a media “circus” and stated that there were serious violations against her client.
