An end of the first round of negotiations between Greek officials and the troika of international lenders of the European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund comes on Tuesday. The first round of talks end with a meeting between the troika officials and Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis at 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday morning.
A three-hour meeting between delegates of the Development Ministry and representatives of the troika proved fruitless on Tuesday afternoon with no point of disagreement nor agreement. During the meeting, troika officials asked for additional guarantees and checks on the settlement of non-performing loans by large debtors whose loans run up to dozens of millions of euros.
The ministry believes that guarantees can be provided, however cannot provide troika officials with the fiscal impact of the measures to seal the agreement.
The first round of talks is ending prematurely due to the beginning of the procedure for a vote of confidence that the coalition government has initiated.
