An accident occured at 10.10 a.m. on Wednesday morning when a small grey Smart car tore down Petrou Ralli street in West Attica resulting in two deaths at the scene of the crash and one in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Witnesses say that the driver had accelerated his car to beat the red traffic lights when the vehicle veered off the road hitting two women standing near a bus stop, one 31-year-old woman was killed instantly and the other was taken to the General State Hospital of Nikaia in a critical condition and died from her injuries at 6 a.m. on Thursday.
The 24-year-old of Albanian descent lost her leg and continued to be treated at the emergency ward as her condition worsened.
The car also hit and killed a 23-year-old police officer walking outside the Aliens Bureau before smashing into a row of parked cars. The policeman’s funeral will take place at 4.30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. On this day, flags at police stations around the country are flying at half mast for this and another officer killed in a separate incident.
27-year-old Albanian Marian Elvis, the driver that caused the accident, was also taken to Tzaneio hospital for abrasions and to be checked for internal injuries. Police sources state that he claiemd to suffer from epileptic seizures and could not remember the crash. Other accounts state that he had just had an accident with a taxi and was speeding away from the scene of the crime.
