Just minutes after the pilot of TK-180 announced that the plane was preparing to land in Istanbul, an announcement was made that the plane would make an emergency sea landing. It said that passengers should return to their seats and place these in an upright position, loosen their neckties or scarves and close their tray tables and lift their window shades.

All panic broke lose as a result ot the announcement caused when a cabin crew member accidentally pushed the emergency button.

“We were shocked. Most of the passengers were praying,” said one passenger.

The crew members tried to explain the mistake and reassure the passengers that a mistake had been made, however there was an air of mistrust as the plane flew over the Marmara Sea for around 20 minutes before it returned to safely at Istanbul Ataturk Airport.
