Suspect Zale Thompson pictured in surveillance footage was shot dead after attacking one police officer in the arm and another one in the head with an axe on New York street.

The officer struck in the head was critically injured and suffers two skull fractures.

After the attack, two officers shot Thompson down and killed him but they also accidentally hit a 29-year-old female who was passing by. Her condition remains critical.

Police say they were investigating whether Thompson’s attack was linked to Islamic terrorism, since ISIS has urged its fighters to start lone wolf attacks in the United States.

Thompson’s Facebook features a photograph of a what appears to be an Islamic warrior displaying Arabic writing.
