The Greek Ministry of Health published new updated guidelines to enhance the level of preparedness in the ports of the country in case of any suspected incidents of Ebola hemorrhagic fever.
According to the General Secretariat of Public Health it takes ten days for people traveling from “contaminated” areas like the port of Conakry in Guinea, to arrive in Greece.
Considering that the incubation period of Ebola virus is 2-21 days, the possibility of a fever outbreak arriving in Greece through a passenger of a ship which sailed from affected areas is likely.
the travel time from the departure of the “contaminated” areas, namely the port of Conakry Guinea to the arrival of the ship in Greek port estimated at ten days.
The new updated guidelines include clear instructions about the conditions and requirements of managing a suspicious incident at sea, as well as procedures “tracking” contacts with other passengers or crew and finally instructions of a procedure for temporary isolation and transfer of the suspected incident.
