Antonis Samaras clarified that there will be no early elections, as Alexis Tsipras asked for earlier, exiting the Presidential Mansion.

After his meeting with President Karolos Papoulias, Prime Minister Samaras stated: “Mr. Tsipras asked for early elections today. He asked what the Greek people and markets do not wish for”.

“I had the opportunity to reiterate that there will be no early elections. I am deeply convinced that Greek MPs, thinking clearly, will elect a new President on February”, reinforcing his position that the required 180 votes for the election of a new President will be gathered by the current parliament.

“We have come a long way and we will not blow it all sky-high”, stated the Prime Minister in after the meeting with Mr. Papoulias.
