Residents of a neighborhood of Stuttgart were under the impression that their homes were attacked with biological weapons, when they saw firefighters arriving in the area wearing protective suits and masks.

Little did they know that the reason was a 65 year old man, weighing 160 kilos, that firefighters were called to rescue from the mountains of garbage that were in his apartment. Explaining the situation, the overweight man said he lived by ordering out but was unable to wash due to his weight for five years!

The fire brigade personnel had to break down the door and were immediately assaulted by a pungent smell. They described the apartment as “Absolute hell”, while one of them stated that “Garbage reached up to our knee. From pizza boxes to old rotting food and bugs traipsing around the floor and walls”.

Due to his large body, the 65 year old did not fit to be transferred out through the door so a crane was used to get him down from his apartment.

Neighbors said that they had no knowledge of what was happening a few meters from their homes!
