29-year-old actress Keira Knightly bared her breasts on Interview magazine’s September issue in order to make a stand against photoshop. She set one condition for the shoot – that the photos be presented unedited so that a statement could be made. “I’ve had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters,” she told The Times. “That was one of the ones where I said: ‘OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them any bigger or retouch.’ Because it does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are.”

She describes women’s bodies as a “battleground” that photographers have distorted. Photographer Patrick Demarchelier shot her wearing nothing but lace opera gloves and black trousers.

In the past, Knightly has complained that her breasts had been digitally enhanced for a film poster and a Chanel fashion advert.

Something she learnt during the shoot was that her face should be relaxed. “It’s very funny, because no photographer has ever said that to me before and made the kind of connection between the two things,” she said.

In an alternative photo shoot by Interview, 47-year-old Nicole Kidman lies on a dirty ground wearing suspenders with a man on top of her. The shoot by Stephen Klein was in purple light.

In another shoot for the magazine by Mert Alas, Naomi Campbell posed on a tennis court as well as beside a swimming pool with a car sinking in it.
