The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York presents Greek carols and Christmas songs on December 5, 12 and 19. “The concerts held in the Museum are few in number, therefore the Greek community and this particular aspect of our tradition – Byzantine music – will be honored,” said “Axion Estin” Foundation (AEF) director Angelo Lampousis, Earth and Atmospheric Science professor at the City College of New York (CUNY).
The Byzantine Holiday Pop-Up concerts are to be held at the Museum’s Mediaeval Sculpture Hall at 2pm, 4pm and 6 pm on each of the three days. They will be performed in several languages besides Greek, including Arabic, Armenian and Russian. Admission is free to the concerts.
Apart from the concerts, the Museum is also hosting “In Praise of Saint Nicholas”, a program of hymns that honor the Bishop of Myra in Asia Minor. The concert to be held at Museum’s Cloisters will be offered on the saint’s day on December 6 with tickets at $45.
