The protest march commemorating the anniversary of the Athens Polytechnic uprising against the junta on November 17 concluded at around 8.00 pm on Monday evening.
According to the latest information, clashes broke out between the riot police and protestors in the area of Exarchia, near the centre of Athens, when a group of young men reportedly started throwing stones at the police units that were deployed at Stournari Street.
The police used tear gas and flash-bang grenades against the protestors and chased them with the assistance of DELTA and DIAS motorcycle squads.
During the clashes, two journalists were reportedly injured. More specifically, a woman photojournalist working for VICE site suffered a slight injury in her back and a journalist also working for VICE was injured in his hand and knee.
More than 25.000 people participated in the rally from the university campus to the American Embassy, that was surrounded by police and riot police units.
Shortly after the main body of the protest march arrived outside the U.S. Embassy in Athens, minor clashes were reported between police and anti-establishment protestors.
The clashes took place in the area near the Hilton Hotel and Vassilissis Sofias Avenue. According to information, riot police used tear gas and flash-bang grenades against a small group of protestors who had moved against the police units present in the area.
According to a Police announcement, 30 people were brought in for questioning at various points in Athens, for precautionary reasons, before the beginning of the march.
