The event was held for the 11th time in 2014 and focused mainly on special, authentic beers. 42 countries from all continents participated in the contest with a total of 1613 beers. 105 brew masters, beer sommeliers and specialized journalists from 25 countries participated in the blind-tasting process to evaluate the beers on the basis of color, aroma, head and taste. These experts decided to award Nissos, a product of the Tinos-based Cyclades Microbrewery, the Silver Star in the “Bohemian Style Pilsner” category.

“At NISSOS we are all proud, excited and moved by this distinction. We ventured in taking part in this competition for the sake of being part of this exciting competition. We had faith in the quality of our NISSOS Pilsner beer but coming to this competition, were humbled to know that we are competing with breweries that we respect enormously, representing countries with vast and important traditions of brewing. To see NISSOS beer receive an award during the SILVER EUROPEAN BEER STAR AWARD 2014 ceremony at the Bray Bevial 2014 exhibition in Nuremberg that was previously offered to leading breweries from Germany, the Czech Republic, the United States and Belgium is an enormous honour and a testimony to the quality of the Greek microbrewery movement of which NISSOS is a proud ambassador” the owner of the Cyclades Microbrewery at Tinos island, Alexandros Kouris stated.
