In a report released on Wednesday, the Hellenic Statistical Authority announced further information on the amenities of dwellings/houses in Greece, based on the findings of a 2011 population census.

More specifically, the report measured factors such as home insulation, types of energy sources used by the households, number of cars and parking spaces owned, and percentage of households that recycle their waste.

Based on the findings of the 2011 census, 45.6% of Greek homes have no insulation at all, while 54.4% of the dwellings have some type of insulation. The report also showed a high dependence on electricity for cooking (92.9%) and heating water (49.5%), while 66.7% of the homes used oil for heating and 32.7% of them used solar for heating water.

As already announced by ELSTAT, the total number of households in Greece is 4.134.540. Out of these households, 1.255.683 (30.4%) have no car, 1.881.231 (45.5%) households have one car, 839.035 (20.3%)households have two cars and 158.591 (3.8%) households have more than two (2) cars.

Just 51% of the total of households recycle their waste. The average rate of recycling per household in Greece amounts to 16,8%.
