The police are scouring Piraeus to find Arber Bako, the 31-year-old Albanian who open fired at a Piraeus nightclub at Mikrolimano early on Saturday after a young dancer refused to leave the bar with him. 15 people were injured after he shot at them with an AK-47.
Three Albanians that the fugitive had met in prison are being sought by the police. They are all members of the same gang that had created a fake ID for Mr. Bako to use at the Galini Hotel where he was staying, just a few meters away from the bar where he spread panic and terror. Police searched his room and found an AK-47 magazine. They also know that several people visited him while he was a guest at the hotel.
Police officers believe that Mr. Bako chose the specific hotel for its proximity to a nearby hideout and had two kalashnikovs and a gun to use for other crimes. The gang he is associated with is known for its activity in drug trading, sex trafficking and offering protection to night clubs.
Sources state that the police knew the identity and addresses of the 31-year-old’s associates as well as the places they frequented but they were unable to track them down. The police are certain that the perpetrator is still in Greece, possibly laying low in shelter offered to him by someone of Albanian nationality.
