An Egyptian court has cleared former president Hosni Mubarak from the murder of hundreds of protesters who called for his removal during the 2011 uprising.

More specifically, the court ruled on Saturday that it did not have jurisdiction over “politically motivated charges” and therefore dropped the case.

This judgment overturns the life sentence Egypt’s ex-leader received in June 2012. Therefore, the former president will face no punishment over the murder of 846 protesters, during the uprising that led to his overthrow.
