EC official funds heating at northern Greek schools

Northern Greek students will have warmer classrooms this winter thanks to the fundraising efforts of an EC official

Newsroom December 2 06:57

Head of the European Commission Representation in Belgium Jimmy Jamar presented a 11,393-euro check from a fundraiser to support Greece. Mr. Jamar, a well-known philhellene, presented the money to Aspasia Leventi, cofounder of the London-based International Foundation for Greece (IFG). Ms. Leventi’s organization aims to fund heating oil for schools in the northern prefectures of Evros, Xanthi, Drama and Florina.

Ms. Leventi said that the IFG also hopes to fund six ambulances to the Greek emergency aid service (EKAV) and four school buses for children with special needs.

The money was raised from a concert that Mr. Jamar had organized on June 28 with Greek composers and singers on June 28.

This isn’t the first time that Mr. Jamar has personally organized events to help Greek society. In 2013, he had raised money for “Doctors Without Borders”, “Make a Wish” and the ELEPAP society for special needs children.  In 2013, he had raised money to help fund “Chamogelo tou Paidiou” (The Smile of the Child).
