A mystery ship was found abandoned at the western coasts of Zakynthos island by port authorities.

The 55-meter Palau-flagged freighter was discovered moored stern in the gulf of Porto Vromi with no member of the crew in sight. Hundreds of boxes of contraband cigarettes were found by the Coast Guard on the ship which is called Amaranthus.

Officers also found documents that referred to the ship under the name Amaranthus and other documents, referring to it as “ISIK 2”.

This name was also legible on the ship, although attempts have been made to erase it.

Based on the lists with the names of the Ukrainian crew members that were discovered inside the freighter, Police are now trying to locate the missing crew.
