Traffic measures ahead of Turkish official visit and rallies

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglou’s visit to Athens on Friday for the third Greece-Turkey High-Level Cooperation Council has led to the Greek police ordering the closure of three Athens Metro stations are shutting at 1 p.m. on Friday. The stations that will be closed down are Evangelismos, Megaron Mousikis and Katehaki.

Other traffic measures are being taken at the following regions:

All of Vas. Sofias Avenue
All of Vas. Konstandinou Avenue
Mesogeion Avenue from Katehaki Street to Vas. Sofias Avenue
Mihalakopoulou Avenue, the lane leading to the city center

Alternative traffic suggestions

Those heading to the Athens center from the Northern suburb should use Kifissias Avenue, Alexandras Avenue, Ymittou Avenue (for those heading to the southern suburb), Kifissou Avenue (for those heading to Peiraeus).
Those heading from the southern suburbs to downtown Athens should use Ymittou Avenue. Those heading from the southern suburbs to the Northern Suburbs should use Ymittou Avenue.
Those heading from Piraeus to the city center should use Pireos Street. Those heading from Piraeus to the northern suburbs should use Kifissou Avenue.

Mr. Davutoglou is due to meet Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras at the government headquarters in Maximos Mansion at 4.50 p.m. The meeting will also be attended by the foreign ministers of Greece and Turkey, Evangelos Venizelos and Mevlut Cavusoglu, respectively. At 8.30 p.m. on Friday, all four will address the Greece-Turkey Business Forum and an official dinner for the Greek and Turkish delegations will follow. On Saturday, Mr. Samaras and Mr. Davutoglu will chair the High-Level Cooperation Council that will be held at the Hilton Hotel in the city center and will be followed by joint statements.

Other measures are expected to be announced on Saturday and Sunday due to the anniversary since the shooting of Alexis Grigoropoulos that coincides with the voting of the budget with a planned rally at 6 p.m. at Syntagma Square. The next three days are expected to be full of rallies and protests and the police are on alert.
