Female members of staff on board the USS Wyoming, a ballistic missile submarine, were confirmed to have been secretly videotaped while showering. Navy officials are currently investigating the actions of a 24-year-old male second class petty officer accused of making and distributing the videos. The Navy Times reported that a November 14 incident report was circulated among the service’s senior leaders.
The videos were filmed over a one-year period and show at least three female officers showering or undressing. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is currently conducting aninvestigation.
A written statement by Lt. Leslie Hubbell, spokeswoman for Submarine Group Ten, issued a written statement:
The Navy is aware of an allegation of alleged criminal activity onboard USS Wyoming home ported at Kings Bay. The Navy and NCIS are investigating the matter, and unfortunately further details are not available at this time due to the ongoing investigation. If the allegations prove to be factual, the Navy will ensure individuals involved are held accountable for their actions.
The USS Wyoming was one of the first submarines to bring women on board in 2011. Navy women began submarine training about four years ago and there were plans to further integrate women on Virginia-class attack submarines.
