Time magazine unveils candidates for 2014 Person Of The Year

The editors of Time magazine have named the eight finalists for the 2014 Person of the Year issue on Monday.

The shortlist was announced by TIME managing editor on NBC’s Today show. The eight candidates include Russian President Vladimir Putin, singer Taylor Swift as well as groups of individuals, like the protestors in Ferguson.

The selection of the candidates was based on the influence they had on the news within 2014. It should be noted that readers have already made their choice, picking Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in TIME’s online poll.

The 2014 Time Person of the Year will be announced Wednesday.

The Ferguson protesters, who participated in demonstrations following the fatal shooting of an unarmed black 18-year-old by a white police officer.

The Ebola caregivers, who are fighting the biggest Ebola outbreak in history

Vladimir Putin, the Russian president who has remained in the headlines throughout this year.

Taylor Swift, a top-selling pop artist who this year pulled her music from streaming service Spotify.

Jack Ma, an English teacher turned founder and CEO of Alibaba.
