Zagori’s yuletide cluster

This cluster of picturesque gems is the ideal winter destination

Newsroom December 16 11:59

Zagori, a lush green region in the Pindus mountains in Epirus is the home of 46 charming traditional villages, known collectively as Zagorohoria.

This cluster of picturesque gems is the ideal winter destination: the pristine natural environment becomes even more beautiful covered with snow and offers a variety of outdoor activities.

The local architecture, featuring stone, wood and slate rock, is in perfect harmony with the breathtaking surroundings, making this area one of the most picturesque regions in Greece.

The area’s striking geology boasts of two national parks, one including the river Aoos and the Vikos Gorge, the other around Valia Kalda, to the east of the imposing snow-capped Mt Tymphe.

The villages of Monodendri, Mikro and Megalo Papigko, Aristi, Kipi and Dilofo are just a few of the precious gems of Zagori, that offer a wide range of activities for nature lovers and sports enthusiasts. Trekking lovers can cross the Vickos Gorge or hit the trails that connect the villages Papigo and Mikró Papigo through the Vikos National Forest.

Don’t leave Zagori without visiting magical Drakolimni, one of the three alpine lakes in the Pindus mountain range, which according to local legends used to be inhabited by dragons.
