Worldwide interest on the first round of Greek Presidential Elections

Journalists from across the globe brave the rain

Newsroom December 17 06:45

A second “clash” is taking place around Parliament now, but it is a media clash rather than a political one.

For days, dozens of TV stations from around the world, news agencies, photographers and journalists have expressed interest to watch the procedure which will start at 7 pm.

The interest is so grand that the surrounding plaza around Parliament is now too “small” to protect a total of 34 cameras which have been set up. Thus, the solution of an awning has been decided upon.

The interest of mass media is also piqued due to the participation of the imprisoned Golden Dawn members, which will attend the parliamentary process for the first time since they were confined into Korydallos prison.

On his part, presidential candidate of the Republic Stavros Dimas will watch the process from his office on Solonos street, with his son MP Christos Dimas at his side, and his wife. Mr. Dimas, speaking to journalists mentioned that he will not be making statements today, but will be commenting on the result after the third round of elections.
