New information has come to light in relation to the attempted bribery scandal that broke yesterday, following ANEL deputy Pavlos Chaikalis statements that he was offered millions to vote for President of the Republic.
On Saturday morning, Mr. Chaikalis revealed to SKAI TV that he had financial dealings in the past with Mr. Yorgos Apostolopoulos, the man whom he identified yesterday as the middleman of the bribery attempt.
More specifically, Mr. Chaikalis said that he had given 5,000 euros to Apostolopoulos in September 2013, in order to invest the money in stocks abroad.
“Mr. Apostolopoulos approached me then and asked me if I had any money to give him so that he could play in the stock market abroad, with the prospect of making 10% profit,” the ANEL deputy said today.
“I replied that my financial situation is dire and I can only give 5,000 euros, which I did. The first and the second month he brought me 500 euros, as interest and when I asked for the capital, he told me that I can get it whenever I want,” said Mr. Pavlos Chaikalis.
“Then there was a strange delay,” the former actor added. “Last July I sent him text messages that I needed money, because a loan settlement I had was about to expire. He said he would take care of the renewal. Then I called him and said that the bank was pressing me for money. He returned 800 euros to me under pressure, as part of the capital, because I told him that I needed the money and I do not want interest.”
