Le Pen on Tsipras: A wind of change is blowing through Greece

It was a victory of the people against the oligarchs of Europe's high finance, said the president of the National Front party.

Newsroom December 30 02:47

Marine Le Pen, the president of France’s far-right National Front party, sings the praise of her ideological opponent Alexis Tsipras, head of the Greek main opposition SYRIZA party.

Commenting on the recent political developments in Greece, following the parliament’s failure to elect a President of the Republic that will trigger snap national elections, Le Pen said that a fresh wind of change is blowing through Greece.

“It was a victory of the people against the oligarchs of Europe’s high finance,” said the president of the National Front party.

In an article on Le Pen’s statements of support for Alexis Tsipras, New Europe magazine comments that it could seem surprising that Marine Le Pen, leader of an extreme right wing party should rejoice at the possibility of a victory of the far left in Greece.

The article also reminds its readers of the statement of Nicolas Sarkozy, who tweeted back in November that “Mme Le Pen is not situated at the extreme right, she is far left” and makes specific reference to Le Pen’s sympathy for another controversial politician, Vladimir Putin.
