Six beautiful stone bridges located in Epirus region in Northwestern Greece have been designated as national monuments by decision of the Greek Culture Minister, Mr. Costas Tasoulas.

Built between the 18th and the early 20th century, these stunning bridges are considered masterpieces of the local traditional masonry.

They are situated in spots of breath-taking natural beauty, namely Doliani, Kalderousia, Kipoi, Sliva in Leptokarya, Riziana of Negades and Kouvaras canyon.

The Ministry decided to declare these six architectural gems national monuments in order to ensure their preservation and in order to promote Epirus’ cultural heritage.

These bridges were of vital importance in traditional societies and were built under very difficult historical, social and economic conditions.

Apart from remarkable examples of local architecture, they are also a reminder of the struggle of this region to contribute in the prosperity and development of the country.
