TV presenter-turned politician Stavros Theodorakis, the founder and leader of the “Potami” party, sent a clear message to voters on Friday by saying his centrist, pro-Europe party is clearly aiming for third place — in order to ensure that it influences the creation of any new government.

Potami is Greek for “river”.

Moreover, he termed the possibility of repeat elections as a “crime” against the country.

He even went as far as to propose that political leaders meet to discuss “Europe’s major problem”, on Sunday night, after polls close.

“When the result is verified on Sunday night, I think there should be an informal meeting of political leaders. The first thing we will say when the result is out and settled is to call for such a meeting in order to solve Europe’s very big problem. This is of the utmost urgency”, he said.

On the possibility of repeat elections assuming on party earns a big enough plurality or a coalition cannot be formed, he said: “I think we have all realized that it is a crime against Greece if we move on to repeat elections. People need to be paid in March. There must be money to pay people in March. Thus, we cannot hold repeat elections”.
