GD leader Michaloliakos: We must be given third exploratory mandate

Golden Dawn party is currently placing third, based on the votes counted so far.

Newsroom January 25 09:42

Nikos Michaloliakos, the general secretary of far-right Golden Dawn party, who is currently jailed pending trial for participating in a criminal group, sent a message from his cell on Sunday, citing the success of his party in Sunday election.

Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) is currently placing third, based on votes counted so far. Michaloliakos referred to a huge victory for his party, “which conducted its pre-election campaign via a payphone,” stressing that GD emerges as the third largest political force in the country for the second consecutive election, after the European Parliament elections of 2014.

He also underlined that Golden Dawn must be given a third exploratory mandate, in case the first and the second exploratory mandates are not successful, as required by law.

“For those who may not know it, we are still awaiting trial despite our innocence. There has not been a conviction yet, but this sinful political system denies even the presumption of innocence,” the GD leader charged.
