In a symbolic first act as prime minister, SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras visited a National WWII Resistance Memorial for the fallen at the Kaisariani shooting range, , in east Athens.
The 4o-year-old PM laid roses at the monument in homage to those executed there in 1944, during the Nazi occupation (1941-1944).
The memorial in Kaisariani was erected at the former shooting range, where numerous wartime resistance fighters had been executed by Nazi forces.
On May 1, 1944, 200 political prisoners were executed by the Germans.
