Samaras also favors Avramopoulos bid for presidency, reports

New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras appears determined to vote for Avramopoulos as new President of the Republic, once nominated by the Prime Minister

According to reliable sources, former prime minister Antonis Samaras spoke with EU Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos over the phone on Wednesday and assured him of his support in case the latter is nominated for Greece’s (ceremonial) presidency. According to further reports, if PM Alexis Tsipras backs another candidate than Stavros Dimas, then the latter will not submit a candidacy.
