Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb underlined on Thursday that Greece faces the prospect of a “dirty exit” from the euro zone, unless it sticks with its reform program.
Following yesterday’s fruitless talks between the Greek side and the country’s European partners at the Eurogroup meeting, and shortly before a EU Summit in Brussels begins, the Finnish politician warned that Europe will not “forgive easily any further loans or restructuring of the Greek debt.”
Specifically, Stubb said Greece has three options: The first is to continue the program and receive an extension.
The second is to endure a long period of instability and uncertainty while discussions on the debt and post-bailout era continue.
The third, which also constitutes the worst-case scenario, is a so-called ‘dirty exit’, which would leave the country on its own.
