UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated that we are witnessing the collapse of Yemen before our very eyes. He called for action to be taken by the Security Council in order to avoid the danger of the country to be plunged into chaos.
He underlined that the UN cannot remain as mere spectators to the Yemeni situation.
Mr. Ban reiterated the challenges that Yemen faces: A dangerous political crisis, increased rebel activities in the south and a serious humanitarian crisis which affects 16 million people.
All these challenges are a “constant threat to the stability of the area, international peace and security”, stated Ban and called for all Yemenis to begin negotiations and work in good faith in order for the governance of the country to be given to a legal and representative government.
