It might seem like science fiction, or a bad dream, but it is reality. It is a mix of plants and tiny mushrooms which can produce fabrics.
To be able to “grow” one’s own clothes is an excellent idea, according to Erin Smith, an artist working for Microsoft Research, who “grew” her own clothes.
“Growing our own clothes through plants can reduce pollution and allows for a piece of attire to be made according to our own size”, she states.
She made her own wedding dress from a white fungus since she didn’t want to buy something that would stay in her wardrobe without being worn again. After her wedding day, the dress became fertilizer for her garden.
Companies have already begun production of bio-fabrics, based on fungi, sugar, and tea, with BioCouture company being the sector leader.
