For the fifth consecutive year, the Greek Community of Melbourne offers free Greek History and Culture Seminars, which will take place at the organization’s new building.

At the launch event, scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 5, Aboriginal activist Dr Gary Edward Foley will give a lecture on the recovery of cultural heritage and the return of Aboriginal antiquities, making specific reference to the Parthenon Marbles.

Dr. Gary Foley is an Australian Aboriginal activist, academic and writer. He is best known for his role in establishing the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra in 1972 and for establishing an Aboriginal Legal Service in Redfern in the 1970s. Foley also co-wrote and acted in the first indigenous Australian stage production, Basically Black.

It should be noted that this the first time an Aboriginal addresses the Greek Community of Melbourne. Dr. Foley will be introduced by Nikos Papastergiadis, a professor at the University of Melbourne School of Culture and Communication.
