A senior from the 2nd High School of Alexandria, Imathia, northern Greece, last night fell from the balcony of a hotel room in Rome on a six-day school trip to the Italian capital.
The head of the Imathia regional district Anastasia Mavridou told Proto Thema that her condition was “difficult”. “This is truly a very difficult moment. The girl is hospitalized and in a critical condition at a Rome hospital and is, at this moment, undergoing surgery,” said Mavridou. “The girl’s parents are already in Rome. We still don’t know how this happened. The police are investigating the situation. The other children on the trip are returning to their homes.”
“She is in a critical condition and is undergoing surgery. That’s all we know at this time,” said the school principal Nikos Katsianidis.

The accident happened last night after the students had dinner and returned to their rooms. The hotel is located off Cristoforo Colombo Street in the center of the Italian capital. The students were packing their things and getting ready to depart on Thursday as planned when the girl fell from the balcony.
“Our thoughts at this time stretch out to the student and her parents,” said Christos Skoupras, head of the Secondary Education Board of the regional district of Imathia, pledging that the accident would be investigated.
