Prime Minister Alexis Tsipas on Tuesday termed a Parliamentary meeting on WWII reparations as historic: “In order to pay tribute to victims of WWII and the fighters of the Greek resistance”, he explained.

“When dialogue between peoples is taken over by superiority complexes and their ‘historic destiny’, war prevails. This darkness which war brings has been experienced already by Europe. It has been hated by Europe”, he added.

“Europe must not make the same mistakes, today”.

The debate concerns a proposal by Parliament president Zoe Konstantopoulou on reforming and upgrading a bi-partisan committee to claim WWII reparations, the repayment of a forced wartime loan and the return of stolen archaeological artifacts.
