Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias raised the issue of German WWII reparations when he met with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin in February, according to ministry spokesperson Konstantinos Koutras. In response to a journalist’s question refering to statements made by the German Foreign Ministry’s assistant spokesperson Sawsan Chebli, who said that the issue of German war reparations was not discussed during a one-on-one meeting in Berlin between both countries’ foreign ministers.

“As far as I know, the issue of German war reparations was raised during Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias’s visit to Berlin, on Feb. 10, in both the joint press conference and the one-on-one meeting of the two Ministers, during which, in fact, Mr. Kotzias proposed to Mr. Steinmeier the setting up of a joint Greek-German Committee of wise persons to examine all the aspects of the issue,” said Koutras.
