Brussels multi-partite meeting: No possibility of Grexit

EU leaders sit down with Greek PM in bid to find solution

Newsroom March 19 11:57

European sources in the European Council foresee that there is a coordinator of leadership views in the informal multi-partite meeting between European leaders.

The same sources suggest that there will be a tabling of reforms by Greece during an urgent Eurogroup meeting in the coming week, where tangible measures and doable reforms will be provided for the confirmation by partners.

There was also  mention that there is no problem of liquidity until April. The partners also stated that the treatment of Greek authorities towards technical groups visiting Athens to gather data was not the best and that the government’s rhetoric afterwards caused even more problems.

All parties involved in the meeting agreed on the political commitment that there will be no Grexit whatsoever.

The “mini-summit”  on the Greek issue includes German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, European Council president Donald Tusk, EC president Jean-Claude Juncker, ECB president Mario Draghi and Tsipras, of course.

Before the meeting began, ECB sources downplayed the possibility that Greek requests for liquidity would be accepted, while Eurogroup president Jeroen Dijsselbloem mentioned “slight” progress made by Greece.

At the same time, Tsipras spoke during the earlier EU summit, pointing out the contradiction that European officials accept that there is a humanitarian crisis, but at the same time condemn any tabled legislation aimed at dealing with the crisis.

He added that there is a contradiction between the political level and the level of institutions. “This must stop”, Tsipras maintained.
