Germanwings Crash: Final moments before the crash (cell phone audio)

Officials are disputing the validity of the cell phone footage

Newsroom April 1 08:02

A new video clip filmed by a passenger on the ill-fated Germanwings jet last Tuesday was found among the debris on a cell phone sim card. The video shows the last few seconds inside the Germanwings plane that left 150 people dead after pilot Andreas Lubitz allegedly rammed the plane into the French Alps.

The video obtained by French magazine Paris Match and German newspaper Bild has cries of “My God” in several languages. Metallic banging is also heard, possibly from the captain trying to open the cockpit door with a heavy object after being locked out.

There is screaming indicating that passengers were aware of what was happening and were terrified. Lufthansa says that it was aware of the reports but questions whether a cell phone could have withstood impact.

A French Gendarmerie that spoke to CNN disputed the video, stating that phones had been found and taken at the crash site but had yet to be explored.

The news comes after claims that Lubitz had been in and out of mental institutions in recent months. Bild writes that Lubitz had been treated at Uniklinik at Dusseldorf from February to March 2015.
