Pope Francis spoke at the Vatican, giving his annual urbi et orbi (“to the city of Rome and to the world”) address at the end of Easter Mass. This year, the Pontiff lamented people’s suffering, conflicts taking place in the world and violence. He pleaded for the end of violence, especially in Iraq and Syria. He called for humanitarian aid to make its way to places where it is needed.
“May the international community not stand by before the immense humanitarian tragedy unfolding in these countries and the drama of the numerous refugees,” he said. Looking to the Holy Land, he called for peace between Israel and Palestine. He mentioned Libya, nuclear talks with Iran, Yemen, Nigeria, Sudan and the shooting at the Garissa University College of Kenya.
He ended his address by consoling those who are marginalized, poor, sick and suffering.
