Experts from the Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration (IGME) visited the volcanic isle of Santorini. After three years of increased volcanic activity, the experts deemed that the volcano has returned to normal levels after changes to the volcano’s rim have stopped. Furthermore, the experts found that a potential eruption would not be as destructive as thought. Volcanoes give warnings and people would have time to evacuate in cases where they are systematically monitored. Experts exclude that there would be an eruption such as the one that occurred 3,600 years ago that left a large 500km water-filled caldera.
